U-571 (2000)
Anytime you can use the setting of a film as an enhancing tool is good. In this case, nearly the entire movie takes place either on deck or inside of a German U-boat, thus creating a tense and claustrophobic atmosphere. The characters that the audience comes to care about are trapped inside a tiny space and everything suddenly becomes more stressful. Matthew McConaughey plays a decent WWII sub commander. At the end, the film is dedicated the those who, in real life, recovered information about the Enigma coding machine from German U-boats that helped the Allies ultimately win the battles at sea.
My Netflix rating: 4 stars
